Caring for Wildlife

Each year, several hundred sick, injured and orphaned wild animals arrive at Healesville Sanctuary, receiving specialist care and, whenever possible, being returned to the wild. This gallery captures moments of their recovery, rehabilitation and the dedicated work that helps these animals thrive.

The Sanctuary also plays a vital role in breeding and conservation programs for more than 20 threatened Australian species. Beyond the care of individual animals, these initiatives contribute to scientific understanding and long-term efforts to protect native wildlife, highlighting the balance between education, research and conservation.
